A Reflection on 2016...
Wow 2016, what can I say - there were so many stand out moments, so many highs and so much FUN!!! 2016 was the year that The Confetti Cakery transformed in to a full time business, and nearly a year on I'm taking a little time to reflect on it.
The decision to grow any business is a decision not taken lightly. Similar to the advice given when thinking about having a baby - "There's never a right time", you might feel like you're never ready. I'll be honest with you; I didn't feel ready even though it was everything I had dreamed of for years. The post-New Year period is notoriously slow and people hold on to their pennies! But my full time work had come to an end, so it almost seemed as if the universe was saying "You're never going to decide that you're ready, so just get on with it already!" and so I thank you universe for giving me no other option!
I have learnt so much in that time since January, about business, about the wedding industry and about being my own boss. The best part has been channeling my creativity and meeting clients who enjoy the creative process as much as I do. I've found that my ideal clients are finding me, after a long time spent looking for them, and I'm so glad they did!
Before writing this post I had a read through last year's 2015 round up, and was so pleased to see that a lot of the people I thanked for their support, have remained constant throughout 2016. I can honestly say that without them, my working life wouldn't have had as much sparkle and joy in it. I've had the absolute honour of working with some great local wedding businesses, and together we've created beautiful styled shoots, mingled at wedding fairs and worked together on some fantastic weddings.
It would be a rather long blog post if I thanked everyone one by one, because there really are so many! However a few special mentions...
Firstly thanks to my long suffering partner and family, they really do go through it all with me!
I've had the privilege of working with many photographers, who honestly are some of the most patient people I've ever met. Darina Stoda Photography is one of the most awesomest photographers in her field, I fall in love with weddings/ love all over again whenever I see her work.
Samantha Hook Photography is not only amazing, but generous with her time and skill, and bonus points always makes me want to snort with laughter (I know, how becoming!) it's never really work with Sam around. These ladies are real magicians and I'm always in awe of the resulting images.
I've been really lucky to have worked with some very creative stylists, who always have an original idea and fabulous new concepts to try. Liz and Daisy at Mad Philomena are an absolute pleasure to work with and I know that whenever they're styling, I'll be astounded with the results.
Gemma and Danielle from Save the Date Event Hire & Stylists hold a very special place in my heart, we started out at the same time, and we always share our delight in how far we've come! I was as proud as punch when they opened their beautiful showroom earlier on in the year, they are true examples of how to keep striving and working. Keep pinching yourselves ladies, we've come this far - 2017, here we come!
Anna from Anna's Attic is pure inspiration to me, and I would like to be Anna when I grow up! There are very few people who can be so genuinely kind, funny and creative in equal measure, but Anna's got it nailed. I can't wait to see what 2017 brings for us!
Stubton Hall has been one of the most important parts in my cake journey; Jess, Rachel and the team have been so generous and kind, and I'm never happier than when I'm delivering a cake to Stubton as I know there'll always be a warm smile when I arrive.
Amy and Leo at Allington Manor were there for me right at the beginning, long before The Confetti Cakery was born, and they have been stalwart supporters of me, for which I am so thankful. Each visit to Allington is a genuine pleasure, it's not every day you get to visit a beautiful Jacobean Manor!
Amy Wilkinson MUA delighted me by calling me earlier on in the year, to ask me to get involved in a styled shoot she was directing. This was just the beginning of a creative and fun relationship, I am so thankful for her boundless enthusiasm and relentless optimism - this girl gets the job done properly!
Rock My Wedding have been amazing this year, I've been so thrilled to have appeared in styled shoots that have been featured on the top wedding blog. I was chuffed to bits that some of my favourite cakes also featured in their Wedding Cake Guide and also their article 'Where to find the best wedding suppliers'.
These mentions are by no means exclusive, there have been many people who have helped me along the way in 2016 - thank you all!
Without all my lovely couples I would be nothing! You keep me focused, creative and smiling - and you really can't pay for that kind of feeling, thank you so much. I am beyond excited about the wonderful wedding cakes that I'll be making in 2017, I cannot wait to share them with you!
Thank you so much,
