How much does a wedding cake cost?

How much does a wedding cake cost?

The eternal question 'How much does a cake cost?' is often the first thing that I'm asked when I meet people, and the answer - well, where shall I begin?! If I could ask you to imagine for a moment going into a car showroom, and asking the salesperson 'How much does a car cost?' then they'll ask what size engine you want, how many people you need to seat, do you want a leather interior, aircon? Now, please don't worry a cake is definitely nowhere near as expensive as a car! But there are some considerations when thinking about the cake that you want...

Let's talk about mental health...

Let's talk about mental health...

This post has been a long time coming, and the time feels right now as October 10th is World Mental Health Day. We live in a time where it's much more socially acceptable to talk about mental health issues (as it flipping should be!), but there are still stigmas surrounding it and there's always room for improvement. Whilst I'm not usually the kind of person to overshare, I'm happy to share my journey if it encourages just one person to speak out or look for help.

Semi-naked Wedding Cakes

Semi-naked Wedding Cakes

If you're getting married and you've been lusting over Pinterest inspiration, then you can't have failed to notice one of the biggest wedding cake trends of the year - the semi-naked cake. The semi-naked cake has overtaken the popularity of naked cakes recently, it seems we prefer our cakes a little more covered up! Personally, I love them and I think that their simplicity is the secret to their appeal, and also the ease in which they can be dressed up to suit all manner of wedding styles.

Confessions of a cake decorator

Confessions of a cake decorator

The madness of the wedding season has descended, and cake decorators (and wedding businesses) across the land are thinking about one thing - making it to the end of August without having a nervous breakdown! If you don't know me, I'm Sophie owner of The Confetti Cakery, and if you do know me, you'll know that I'm nothing short of honest (perhaps a little too honest). The last few weeks have got me thinking, and I thought it may be carthartic to share a few thoughts, and give a little insight in to the life of a cake decorator. I don't speak for all cake decorators, but I'm sure there'll be a few giggles and "hell yeahs" in hot kitchens.

DARK & DELICIOUS

DARK & DELICIOUS

What more can you wish for than an outdoor wedding and celebration?! This beautiful styled shoot took place at the majestic Stapleford Park, Leicestershire. The weather was typically and reliably British, a gentle drizzle descended - but with a typically British stalwart attitude to the weather, we carried on regardless and created what I hope you will agree is something pretty magical.

FINE ART & FLORALS

FINE ART & FLORALS

This beautiful shoot was organised by Natalie Hewitt Wedding Planner and shot by W O O K I E Photography on location at Stubton Hall. Inspired by British garden flowers, featuring the home grown beautiful blooms by Catkin Flowers, whose seemingly effortless floral talents know no bounds! Ps. check out the cutest little Flower girl and her floppy bunny!

LIGHT & DARK

LIGHT & DARK

I've been very priviliged to have worked with some fantastic wedding photographers and the amazingly talented Darina Stoda took the time to capture some of my cakes earlier this year. Stubton Hall was the fabulous backdrop for this shoot, and its many picture perfect rooms set the scene for some spectacular shots.

SARAH ELLEN BAILEY PHOTOGRAPHER

SARAH ELLEN BAILEY PHOTOGRAPHER

Back in 2015 I had the fantastic opportunity to do a cake photo shoot with the lovely Sarah Ellen Bailey Photographer. I met Sarah through some close mutual friends when I made their wedding cake, and she did their beautiful wedding photography. She was the consummate professional, and endlessly patient whilst trying to herd us together long enough to take a group photo! We got talking and the idea for a cake shoot was born, and wow she certainly didn't disappoint, here's a glimpse of some of the beautiful shots she took on the day....

THANK YOU 2015!

THANK YOU 2015!

For The Confetti Cakery, the cake obsession began about six years ago. A best friend was emigrating to Australia and asked for a cake for the leaving party. Having not really baked since school, this was going to be a tall order! What ensued was a barrage of cake decorating books, you tube tutorials and googling recipes- unbeknownst to us this was the very beginning of The Confetti Cakery. Undaunted by all the potential pitfalls (or just plain naive!) a three tiered cake was embarked upon. Layers of lemon sponge with lemon curd and lemon buttercream; it went down a treat, it might not have been the prettiest cake but the sentiment itself was the most important thing.

EXCITING NEW CHANGES

EXCITING NEW CHANGES

Eeekkkk!!!! Here's a sneak peak at the top secret work that the fabulous Sarah and Rachael from Studio90two have been getting up to. I've been keeping this little secret for some weeks now, and it's been so hard because I just want to shout it from the rooftops! But there's not long to wait now, and with the new logo comes new business stationery (another addiction of mine!).
